Football stops play

12th April 2010 - Just to let you know that the gig originally booked for the 12th June at The Duke of Connaught, Windsor, has been re scheduled to the following saturday (19th). Apparently there is something called World Cup Football on the telly that night - England vs USA (funny, I thought the Americans played football rather differently to us - like rugby but with a bunch of girlie padding) so we and the pub thought it best all round if we put it off untill the following Saturday.

*** January 2nd Gig Canceled ***

1st January 2010 - Sorry to announce that the Travelling Shoes gig tomorrow night at the Kamphill Club has had to be canceled due to illness - and before you ask, it isn't a New Years Eve hangover!

Live Pictures from Mike the Bike

10th November 2009 - For quite a while now Mike 'the bike' Murdoch has been hanging off lights and wobbling on bar stools taking pictures of the band. Lack of time has meant that I haven't been able to put any up on the website untill now and I have got one or two up on the live pix page. Many thanks Mike.

Recording a live CD,Belle Vue gig postponed and a birthday bash.

1st November 2009 - We have invited our old mate Jonny Bidgood to come down with all his kit to record the Sunday afternoon gig at the Nags Head on the 22nd of this month. Jonny has recorded three live albums for us over the past 30 years and in between times has been working with people like The Stranglers, Katrina & The Waves etc., whoever they may be...So if you fancy being on a record why not come along.

We have in agreement with Alan at the pub decided to postpone next Saturdays (7th November) gig at the Belle Vue, High Wycombe because there is to be a two day mini festival across the Nags Head (Saturday) and the Belle Vue (Sunday) in support of a possible outdoor festival next year on the Rye. Sorry about the short notice but we have only just found out about the festival, please pass this on to anybody else who may be coming.

On the bright side Dave the bass is having a birthday (funny, thought he had one last year) and it coincides with a new gig for us at the Cippenham British Legion would you believe so everyone is invited to come down and give him the bumps. He says he's 21 but I'm not convinced...For more details/address etc. see the gig guide.

Next Nags Head gig is November

23rd September 2009 - Our next Sunday session at the Nags Head will be on the 22nd November rather than in October as Tom is putting on a charity jam for Oxfam on that day. First one there for a few months so hope to see you there.

Halfway House gig canceled plus Coach & Horses

13th September 2009 - Sorry to anybody who was hoping to see us at the Halfway House in Barnes last night but we had to cancel at the last minute (well Friday night anyway) due to severe illness in the band - and it was severe, first gig we,ve had to miss in 30 years or more. I'd like to say it won't happen again so I will - "It won't happen again". This sort thing can happen to anybody though so don't be too hard on us.

On the subject of cancelled gigs the gig at the Coach & Horses, Isleworth on the 9th October has been cancelled by the venue due to double, or possibly even triple, booking. All I will say is that this has happened to us before here and I am just wondering if the Coach & Horses is a pub or is it a brewery............

Nags Head 28th June 2009

Dave borrows a Rickenbacker in the vain hope that it will be louder than Chris' shirt. Oh bugger, did I mention Chris' shirt? The sun glasses took the edge off it but you can still see it when you close your eyes, burnt on to the back of the retina...

On a more serious note our old mate Goffy parked his equally old BSA A10 motorbike on the pavement by the flats opposite and before the band had even started had been clamped. Clamping van was still there so release few was only £320! Goffy seems to have mellowed in his old age as he took it very well all things considered - but you have been warned!!

Next months gig at the Nags will be two weeks earlier than usual on the 12th. This will be the last sunday session at the Nags for a while as due to ever more diary commitments we have decided to put it onto a 3 monthly basis rather than every month, rotating with two other bands - yet to be determined. Watch the gigs listing (or email us to be put on our mailing list) to see when the rotation will start up again.

Last minute Bank Holiday gig

28th April 2009 - Spur of the moment last minute gig organised for the sunday of the upcoming Bank Holiday weeked. Purely for fun (and cheap beer) we have offered to play Dave the bass' local The Barleycorn in Cippenham (Slough) on Sunday 3rd May. See gig guide for more details. Did I mention cheap beer?

Sun Inn Chobham cancelled

23rd March 2009 - Sorry to say the gig booked for The Sun Inn, Chobham, on Sat 18th April has been cancelled by the venue. Reason given was that due to the credit crunch all live music was being pulled. Sad to say we will probably seeing more of this as pubs struggle to stay afloat. Do your bit to support live music by going to as many gigs as you can and show the landords that there is beer to be drunk and money made from quality live music.

Cracking new gig in Barnes

8th March 2009 - Last night saw a cracking gig for us at a new venue, The Halfway House in Barnes. Great place with a great atmosphere, friendly staff and welcoming audience - many of whom seem to like a dance! With already booked up a couple more for later in the year but you don't have to wait untill then, music most Saturday nights - see their website for details.

February Nags Head Sunday session back on

11th February 2009 - Originally Tom didn't need us to do our regular Sunday afternoon session in the down stairs bar as Februaury is a short month. However, this is now BACK ON on Sunday 22nd Feb, 3 ~ 6ish. Sorry for the short notice - hope to see you there!

CD4JON and an appology

21st December 2008 - Seeing Graham (an always welcome face and long time supporter of the band since the earliest days back in the early 80s) at the gig at The Belle Vue last night reminded me that I had never got around to puting the link in for his very worthwhile CD4JON onto the website. In my defence I did start to ages ago but at that time I couldn't get the link to work so thought I better leave it until it was working and of course forgot about it! I of course appologise for this and to try and make up for it I include it here and also on the links page.

I'll let Graham take up the story...

"Last year my good friend Jon Emmett died of heart failure. Jon, myself and other friends enjoyed live music and got to know a lot of bands around our neck of the woods, that being High Wycombe and West London, At his funeral we had authentic blues duo Delta Echoes play some old blues songs on National Steel guitars and later in the evening Leroy, Sparky and Nobby dedicated their gig to Jon. Later that month Storm Warning played a gig in memory of Jon.
In time for the first anniversary of Jon's death I came up with the idea of a compilation cd of some of the bands we had seen, with the profits going to the British Heart Foundation.
The response has been fantastic and it has now become a double cd and could easily have been a triple!
This is the finished article, all bands I've asked have been exceedingly generous with their work and this double cd now has 28 superb tracks, some not previously released.
AVAILABLE NOW AT JUST £10. Click Here to see how to buy your copy. Many thanks, Graham.
And remember this is a limited edition so don't miss out!
"

So far he has raised over £2,400 for the Britsh Heart Foundation - sterling work and worthy of your support.

June 2008 - It is with great pleasure (and not a little relief) that we can welcome our excellent new drummer Ivan to the fold. Ivan has fitted in straight away and brought a new energy and drive to the band - as anyone who saw his debut at the Pheasant will tell you. If you have not seen him yet why not come along to one of our gigs and see what we mean. A settled line up means we can start getting down to some serious gigging again.

Many thanks to our dep drummers

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the dep drummers who have been keeping us going since Micks emmigration. So a big "ta very much" goes out to Martyn and Chris - don't be strangers!

Micks emigration

November 2007 - After much work in the preparation, during which gigs were not always a high priority,Mick has now emigrated to Australia. We played one last gig with him at the Three Elms on the 11th and so ended 30 years of band history. We wish Mick and Carol every success and hapiness in their new life.

Nigel Foster gets in touch

25th May 2007 - Nigel Foster, who played harmonica with Travelling Shoes Mk2, has been in touch having spotted the website. He is alive and well and living in the Isle of Wight. In his email Nigel recollects "I have some fond memories of the band, like hurtling up the A40 from Putney to play at the Nag's Head...........for a tenner!! Now that's dedication...or insanity!". Nigel also sent a copy of the original artwork for the cassette version of one of the Travelling Shoes Mk2 live recordings.

Nigel is still playing and is currently playing harmonica and singing in Isle of White outfit the Contrabluesband.
